This certainly is a turnip for the books. Les just say French turnips were more entertaining than Chinesse turnips in the past, but I think without a hat in the ring that the title might be Won by the Chinese when both are Hung out blog by blog near a small puddle of poets.

At the National War Museum Cnaberra yesterday on the way haome from Dick Smith Bowylie Scale Rally (best thing for years..terriffic) the War museum's 10 minute video tribute to the battle of Long Tan (http://www.anzacday.org.au/history/vietnam/longtan.html) was stunning.

Wet eyes in a big way!

In 1962 the King's school annual cadet camp at Singleton initialed jungle patrols with blanks in our .303's to start simulating modern training. The leaves disintegrating in front of me, the noise, smoke, chaos, radio protocol, fear, adrenalin. All came flooding back,....too much.

Well done Vet's...no wonder you chose that battle to be YOUR Gallipoli day.

Wee salute and honour you. THANKS

The Olympic Flame
==================
The Olympic flame is a practice continued from the ancient Olympic Games. In Olympia (Greece), a flame was ignited by the sun and then kept burning until the closing of the Olympic Games. The flame first appeared in the modern Olympics at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. The flame itself represents a number of things, including purity and the endeavor for perfection. In 1936, the chairman of the organizing committee for the 1936 Olympic Games, Carl Diem, suggested what is now the modern Olympic Torch relay. The Olympic flame is lit at the ancient site of Olympia by women wearing ancient-style robes and using a curved mirror and the sun. The Olympic Torch is then passed from runner to runner from the ancient site of Olympia to the Olympic stadium in the hosting city. The flame is then kept alight until the Games have concluded. The Olympic Torch relay represents a continuation from the ancient Olympic Games to the modern Olympics.

Olympic flame
==============
The Olympic flame is "The light of knowledge, life and spirit and symbolises the handing down from generation to generation". The Olympic flame, which symbolises the endeavor to perfection and struggle for victory, was first introduced to the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928. The first Olympic Torch Relay was organised and run in Berlin in 1936.

Originally the suggestion of the Germans, Theodore Lewald, a torch is lit at Olympia in Greece, the home of the Ancient Olympics, and then carried by relay to the host city. The last runner, carrying the torch, runs into the main stadium at the time of the Opening Ceremony. The Olympic flame is then lit and allowed to burn throughout the Games until it is extinguished during the Closing Ceremony.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin

Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the Modern Olympic Games, was born in Paris in 1863 and was personally involved in fencing, rowing, boxing and cycling. His visits to British public schools resulted in a lifelong interest in trying to get the heavily academic French schools to take up more sports-oriented curricula. As an educational theorist, de Coubertin was convinced of the importance of sport for the development of the individual. He believed that the qualities of initiative, teamwork and fair play should be encouraged in young people through participation in school sports and competitive games.

In 1892 at the age of 29, de Coubertin began to rally support for the revival of the Olympic Games. He felt that a great deal could be gained by bringing together the youth of the world in friendly competition. He also believed that the Modern Olympic Games would be a period of concord in which differences of status, religion, politics and race would be forgotten.

On 23 June 1894 at the Paris Congress, de Coubertin founded the IOC and established the structure of the Olympic Movements and preparations began for the first Olympic Games of the modern era, to be held in Athens in 1896.

Olympic Motto

The Olympic motto Citius, Altius, Fortius, expresses the message which the IOC addresses to all who belong to the Olympic Movement, inviting them to excel in accordance with the Olympic spirit.

Citius, Altius, Fortius, which is Latin for faster, higher, stronger, was devised by a teacher friend of de Coubertin, a Dominican monk, Father Henri Didon.

The Final Inspection
======================
The Soldier stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, my Lord, I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a dollar,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the Saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

If I invented people I would of given them 4 legs.
Yes it would of been more expensive for shoes but it would be great for running.

Lonz said...

fast 4 footers have their heels up their legs so they can't wear thongs.

Thoofs, pawongs, thopaws.....and the fast lady 4 footers would need high heels aboput 18" tall.

How would you stand on an escalator?

Les Q said...

escalators may need to be designed with 4 steps instead of 2 depending on the positioning of the extra 2 legs.

bicycles would be renamed quad cycles.

but the old bicycles may become popular again. especially for old people who would be able to rest 2 legs while pedaling with the other 2.

So how did you go with that course Lonz

"How to make blog friends"

Did you get anything out of it?

Lonz said...

Yes, I need to plant more paddocks of delicious Lucerne hay and grow a flock of short sighted sheep who choose not to read or think for themselves. baa baa baa

I have been spoiled by a dwindling bunch of astute bloggers.
I need to team up with some more smarties.
I fell into the trap of thinking that most bloggers were inquisitive and outgoing. That not only does "bullshit baffle brains" but that "false claims by icons clouds the truth".

The background email network is extremely powerful in organizing the attacking troops into a unified onslaught.

The sugar coated lie is tastier than the nutritious fact.

Sticks and stones may break my brains but names can chip them too.

That the "." and the mirror is mightier than the rhetoric.

Some bloggers need to get even forever.

Few bloggers understand the law and the meaning of slander or false witness.
We all seem to bend the "conditions of use".

Many bloggers think cyberspace is real.

Few understand the statistics reports or their exposure to WWW.

I am not as dumb as I thought I was.

That I now have exposure which exceeded my expectations....and as the say "just spell my name right"...and they did.

The one who had a stalking match with "Biggles" is still extremely insidious and dangerous and pops out of the woodwork at the first sign of blood.

IF....the recent Spanish Inquisition were the BigBlog official Moderators (and the BlogPolice) then their Nazi accusative tactics were launched in error and prematurely as I have explained on one of my posts where I summarized my motives and intent. The clumsy intervention by the BlogPolice by lumbering in too early caused a situation which was almost under control when they pored petrol on the flames and fanned them with their brace of Alsatians.

I posted my invitation to - Download Budget Finesse 30 day Trial - on the blogs of most of the bloggers who had comments beside mine on Grotty's blog. My assumption was that we knew each other by associated comments with G and did not need an introduction. I guess some bloggers post and run without getting to know who is scribbling on the same sheet of paper beside them. None of the other invitees on that day complained to me. I didn't use any sugar coating as I was interested in the inquisitive level of the bloggers.

I take the point of somebody suggesting that the following firestorm CAUSED BY THE NAZI PARTY could have damaged my image and scared away potential customers. This was not of my making and I feel very bruised by the bullyboy tactics applied to me in error.

I expect the Ranking system to change as a consequence of this unwarranted attack on me. Nothing lasts forever and I have been surprised that it has been static for so long.

Marketing and politics go hand in hand and often knee jerk decisions in that area are supposed to show strong decisive management practice, but I think the bullyboys are the ones who need punishing for tarnishing my reputation in such an underhanded way.

Thousands of hits are coming to the LONZ blog and I presume that something there attracts interest and indirectly business to BigPond which I hope would continue. My blog certainly contains original creative efforts, 3-d sculpture and art in the forms of my models, computer science and insights and tips to the blog workings, open presentation of faith and generally good values. It is not aimed to be spoon feeding to the masses, I am a specialist and try to provide qualified links to all of the subject I reference for the inquisitive to follow up. I try to avoid unsubstantiated claims, but I am not a qualified journalist/writer so there may be some gaffs and gaps.
Anyway it has been a good ride and if I survive my hospital stay next week I may reconsider what BigBlog holds for me...if I survive past Christmas. My faith will be tested for real on Monday ( HDR Brachy ).
